How much can you afford to spend on a house?
Let’s take a soulful look at how much to spend on a house. Whether you’re getting a quick estimate online or working with a mortgage professional for a more thorough approach, beware – the number you get may be higher than what your soul is calling you to spend.
You see, the bank’s approval is based on the statistical likelihood you won’t default on the loan. Because most people will stop paying other bills before they stop paying the mortgage, the amount the bank says you can spend may be higher than your soul’s limit. But in order for your home to be in Financial Balance, what it costs must leave you enough to feed your soul in other ways.
To approach the mortgage limits soulfully, consider what your soul is calling you to do now and in the future. Then ask your ego to investigate how much you’ll need for these soul callings and crunch the numbers going in and out each month. Once your ego has looked at all possibilities, sit down with your soul and ask what amount your soul is calling you to spend on a house. It will likely be significantly lower than what the bank says you can spend. But that’s ok, the bank is not your soul. The soul overrules.
