Trash Talk: 3 Things to Consider When Thinking About Tossing Your Trash

Let’s talk trash!

What do I mean by trash? Trash is anything that no longer serves your soul. When you have things in your home that don’t serve your soul, they suck energy out of you leaving less for your soul’s expression. When you remove soul sucking items from your home, you free your soul.

There are three things to consider when you’re thinking about tossing your trash. First, is it the right time to put time into tossing your trash? Second, how do you decide what serves your soul and what doesn’t? Third, what’s the most soulful way to toss your trash?

Let’s start with the first question – Is it time to toss your trash? Many books and organizers will say that decluttering & organizing should be everyone’s top priority. But a more soulful approach is to ask your soul if it’s the right time to address your trash.

When I ask, I’m often surprised at the answer. I may think I’m supposed to toss my trash but my soul directs me to leave the closet a mess until I do something else. Other times, when I think I should be focusing on something else, my soul directs me to clean out a closet. It can be scary to listen to my soul because it isn’t always what I think I “should” be doing. But whenever I look back, I see that my soul was right.

So, when your soul directs you to toss your trash, how do you know what’s trash and what isn’t? Look at each item and ask, “Soul, do you want me to keep this?” You’ll either get a “No” or a “Yes”. If you don’t get a clear yes or no, put the item aside and ask another time until you get your answer.

I hope this helps you toss your trash so your soul can live free. If you feel moved, write about this below because sharing is good for your soul.

Next time, we’ll talk about choosing the most soulful way to toss your trash

Until next week, I wish you well on your journey.
