Does a TV belong in your Soul’s Home®?
Last week, I showed you how we covered our TV with a picture. While we did this partially to make our home look nicer, the more important reason is that TV can be bad for my soul.
I’ve had an unhealthy relationship with TV since I was young. My ego tempts me to watch too much under the guise of needing to know what’s going on in the world, keeping me company when I’m alone, distracting me from problems or “relaxing” after an exhausting day. Before I know it, I’ve overdosed on HGTV or become consumed by distressing programming. I’m prone to worry about distressing things I’ve seen on TV even when they’re fiction! It can take days to shake it off, sucking the soul out of me!
On the other hand, there are legitimate benefits to TV. TV feeds my soul by exposing me to new experiences and viewpoints. So, I didn’t want to get rid of the TV altogether. I just wanted to be more intentional about when and what I watched. I needed TV to feed my soul, not my ego.
Hiding the TV when it isn’t in use and giving myself the extra step of uncovering it helps me to be more conscious about when and what I watch. It’s been about 2 months since we covered the TV and it’s been great to watch less TV! I feel less stressed. I have more time. I’m more focused and much happier! I’m more in tune with my soul.
If TV is a problem for you too, I hope you can transform your relationship to TV into one that feeds your soul so you can live in your Soul’s Home®.
